Social Stories / Comic Strip Conversation

Delegates gain an understanding of what Social Stories are, why they are effective for supporting autistic pupils, and how they can be used to promote understanding, reduce anxiety, and support positive outcomes. As an introduction session, delegates will learn the key strategies and begin to create simple Social Stories for an identified area of need.
Delegates will have the opportunity to understand the effectiveness of Comic Strip Conversation (CSC) and how to use them to support pupils social understanding and emotional regulation.

This practical training explores effective strategies for supporting secondary-aged pupils with phonics and early reading difficulties. Delegates will gain a deeper understanding of how pupils learn to read, what phonics is and what phonological skills are needed for reading. Delegates will also learn practical approaches for building reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. The session includes guidance on assessing reading needs, teaching phonemes and irregular words, selecting appropriate reading materials, and embedding phonics learning across the school day, with a range of ready-to-use resources and activities to support classroom practice.
