Supporting learners with literacy difficulties - including dyslexia
This is a short introduction to the many ways that learners with literacy difficulties (reading, writing, spelling), and dyslexia can be supported to make progress in school. The course gives strategies on how to adapt everyday classroom teaching and ideas about which interventions to use to boost literacy.

After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Choose the most appropriate interventions for their school to help boost literacy levels for learners with specifically literacy difficulties.
- Begin to understand how they may adapt their everyday teaching to support learners with literacy difficulties to access the learning.
- Understand which learners need something more than adaptive teaching to be successful in learning to read, write and spell.

This course offers practical strategies for teaching assistants to support children in the classroom, focusing on the communication process and potential difficulties with speech, language, and communication.
Suitable for TAs working in secondary settings including DSPs.

- •Increased understanding of the communication process.
- •Increased understanding of speech, language and communication needs in students.
- •Knowledge of a range of strategies, approaches and resources to use in the classroom and with individual students to support SLCN.
