Y6 Writing Meeting
The session aims to provide schools with the opportunity to work with colleagues from other schools to standardise TA judgements and identify next steps in writing. It will include:
- A review of a standardised collection of writing
- Discussion of strategies to support progress
- Moderation and identification of next steps in writing for pupils* in your class alongside colleagues and LA moderators.
Please bring English books (including at least 4 pieces of recent writing) for several pupils in your class. It is useful to bring books from pupils of different abilities to identify how to make the fastest gains in learning.

This session aims to provide all Y6 teachers in a school with the opportunity to review writing alongside a LA moderator to ensure consistency across the team.
Moderators will support teachers to use Assessment for Learning to:
- Identify where there are strengths and gaps in pupils’ writing.
- Determine next steps for planning and teaching in writing to maximise progress.
