Introduction to Leicester's Practice Methodology: 2 day Assessment & Analysis Training

This interactive 2-day training is the core training course for front line Children's Social Care, Early Help and Prevention practitioners and managers to support the use of Leicester's practice methodology.

There will be a specific focus on the Signs of Safety assessment framework 'mapping', and also writing statements, goals and scaling,
In addition to this, you will gain an understanding of 'how we work' in Leicester, and the connections between relationship based practice, an understanding of the impact of trauma, anti discriminatory practice and the child/young persons lived experience.

We will also apply the principles of 'slowing down our thinking' and the use of best questions.

We will apply assessment and analytical skills in the session, alongside thinking about immediate planning for safety, and understand how this supports the planning process, and link this to research, policy and procedures.

Introduction to Leicester's Practice Methodology (LSCPB Session) 1/2 day

This half day multi-agency session is delivered to multi-agency workers across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.

Please note: Leicester City Staff who are attending the 2 day assessment and analysis training do not need to attend this course.

This session, will give you a brief overview of the principles that underpin work with children, young people and their families, and will introduce you to the main Signs of Safety assessment tool ,'mapping', and statements, goals and scaling.

Analysis and critical thinking when working with children and families

Social care practitioners make decisions that have a significant impact on other people’s lives.

In this workshop, participants will develop their confidence and skills in making analytical and defensible decisions when supporting children and families.

Designed for:

  • Family help and social care practitioners working directly with children and families.

Learning outcomes:

As a result of attending this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Define analysis, critical thinking and defensible decision-making, and explain why these are important.
  • Use models that support these concepts, including the Anchor Principles and Wonnacott’s Discrepancy Matrix.
  • Explain the importance of child and person-centred approaches in thinking processes.
  • Reflect and debate the roles of equity, diversity, and power when considering thinking processes in practice.
  • Discuss the skills and techniques that support analytical recording.
